Justin Farr is the founder and principal consultant of Business Technology Advantages, LLC, and a Professor of Practice at the Auburn University College of Business, where he teaches database management and programming. This unique combination of academic rigor and real-world consulting gives Justin a perspective few IT consultants can match.
Justin holds a Master of Science in Information Systems and Decision Sciences and a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Decision Sciences, both from Louisiana State University. His career spans over two decades in the technology industry — from network administration and software development to IT management, solutions architecture, and university leadership.
Before founding BTA, Justin served as Director of Information and Instructional Technology at Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine, where he led technology strategy and operations. Prior to Auburn, he held key roles including Director of Information Services at the LSU Foundation, IT Manager and Solutions Architect at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana, and IT Manager/Programmer at Stonetrust Commercial Insurance. He also gained early-career experience as a Software Developer at Unisys Corporation.

Deep experience with Crystal Reports, SSRS, Jasper Reports, and Power BI. Designs and builds custom reporting solutions that transform raw data into clear, actionable business intelligence.
Hands-on Azure cloud deployment including Azure SQL Database and Azure-hosted web applications. Git and GitHub for version control, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment workflows. Visual Studio and VS Code as primary development environments.
Foundation in network administration and IT infrastructure management. Experience leading and managing IT departments, architecting systems across on-premises and cloud environments, and coordinating remote teams via Microsoft Teams and Zoom.

Built a custom Elixir-based middleware integration layer connecting two major REST APIs — bridging a veterinary management system with a treatment sheet platform. Coordinated remotely with regular testing cycles and status meetings via Microsoft Teams.

Designed and implemented a PL/SQL ETL process to migrate data from a legacy Oracle database to a newly normalized Oracle architecture. Updated schemas, maintained packages, procedures, functions, and triggers, and supported the Oracle APEX front-end interface.
Auburn University — College of Veterinary Medicine
Developed a Python/Flask web application for financial reporting. Migrated data from multiple sources via automated ETL jobs, deployed to Azure with GitHub auto-deployment, and housed the data layer in Azure SQL Database.
